Making Visible The Kingdom Through Convergence

Meeting the Minstrels of Bremen

Today our motley crew of ATS students arrived in Bremen and made our way to Weser-Stadion GmbH where the majority of the large events will take place.  It just so happens to be the International Workers Day (workers of the world unite!) and we’ve seen mass protests aimed at Germany’s involvement in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.  I was very surprised to see such a vehement anti-America/anti-George Bush sentiment on the majority of the placards.  Also, noticed quite a bit of opposition to Christival.  Apparently, there may or may not have been a few workshops and seminars devoted to the question of abortion vis-a-vis the right to life and it raised the ire of a fairly large group of people.  Later in the evening the protest turned violent and we watched as protesters flipped and burned a car just outside the gates.  Politzei came in dressed for war in full riot gear and they quelled the demonstration rather quickly.  They don’t mess around here…a very interesting beginning to our time here in Bremen.
